Carl Honoré

Carl Honoré is a Canadian journalist who wrote the internationally best-selling book "" about the Slow Movement.

In 2008, he came out with a new book, "Under Pressure: Rescuing Our Children from the Culture of Hyper-Parenting", which promotes more relaxed and more hands-off techniques for raising and educating children.

Carl was born in Scotland, but considers Edmonton his hometown. After he graduated from Edinburgh University with degrees in history and Italian, he worked with street children in Brazil, which inspired him to take up journalism. Since 1991, he has reported from all over Europe and South America, spending three years as a correspondent in Buenos Aires. His work has appeared in publications including the "Economist", "Observer", "American Way", "National Post", "Globe and Mail", "Houston Chronicle", and the "Miami Herald". He has appeared on "Fox and Friends" and "Dennis Miller" and was the subject of a double-page spread in "Newsweek". He currently works and lives in London with his wife and their two children.

Books

* Honore’s first novel, "", is an international bestseller in which Carl traces the history of our increasingly breathless relationship with time and tackles the consequences and conundrum of living in this accelerated culture of our own creation. Honore details our perennial love affair with efficiency and speed in a perfect plend of anecdotal reportage, history, and intellectual inquiry. It is the first comprehensive look at the worldwide slow movements making their way into the mainstream – in offices, factories, neighborhoods, kitchens, hospitals, concert halls, bedrooms, gyms, and schools.
* In his newest book "Under Pressure: Rescuing Our Children from the Culture of Hyper-Parenting", Honore explores the potential dangers of parents micro-managing their children and demonstrates how parents can slow down and strike a balance between too little and too much. This book combines fine reporting, intellectual inquiry, and true stories to explain how families can better the future of childhood.
