Garth Stein is an American author and film producer from Seattle, Washington. In 1991 he co-produced an Academy Award winning short film, "The Lunch Date". He has also published three novels, "Raven Stole the Moon" in 1998, "How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets" in 2005, which won Stein a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award, and his latest novel, "The Art Of Racing In The Rain" in 2008. At one time, he taught creative writing at Tacoma School of the Arts.

Stein was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Seattle. He attended Columbia University, where he earned a B.A. in 1987 from its college and a Master of Fine Arts from the film school. He currently lives in Seattle.
