Moonlighting Proteins. Novel Virulence Factors in Bacterial Infections

Moonlighting Proteins: Novel Virulence Factors in Bacterial Infections is a complete examination of the ways in which proteins with more than one unique biological action are able to serve as virulence factors in different bacteria. The book explores the pathogenicity of bacterial moonlighting proteins, demonstrating the plasticity of protein evolution as it relates to protein function and to bacterial communication. Highlighting the latest discoveries in the field, it details the approximately 70 known bacterial proteins with a moonlighting function related to a virulence phenomenon. Chapters describe the ways in which each moonlighting protein can function as such for a variety of bacterial pathogens and how individual bacteria can use more than one moonlighting protein as a virulence factor. The cutting-edge research contained here offers important insights into many topics, from bacterial colonization, virulence, and antibiotic resistance, to protein structure and the therapeutic potential of moonlighting proteins. Moonlighting Proteins: Novel Virulence Factors in Bacterial Infections will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in microbiology (specifically bacteriology), immunology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, pathology, and protein science. Brian Weir Henderson (born 15 September 1931) is a New Zealand-born Australian television personality who hosted the Australian version of "Bandstand" from 1958 until 1972. Henderson also holds the record for the longest serving television news presenter, having read either the weekend or the weeknight news on Sydney station TCN-9 from January 1957 until his retirement in late November 2002. Henderson took part in the reunion with Channel Nine for the 50th birthday of Australian television in September 2006.

The tagline Henderson used to sign off at the end of every newscast was, interchangeably, "...and that's the way it is." [cite news|first=Jenny|last=Tabakoff|coauthors=Peatling, Stephanie|title=That's the way it is - Hendo to call it a night|url=http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/10/21/1034561445970.html|work=The Sydney Morning Herald|date=2002-10-22|accessdate=2007-05-28] or "the way it is"; the sign-off originally came from the American newsreader Walter Cronkite.

At the end of his final bulletin, Henderson's voice wavered as he told viewers it was time to watch the news, not present it:

"Not the way it was, as has been suggested, but for the last time, the way it is, this Friday the 29th of November, this is Brian Henderson - a sad Brian Henderson - saying not goodnight, this time, but goodbye." "The Simpsons" Army Barracks have a Henderson Bandstand often mistakenly thought to be named after Brian Henderson and his show. The bandstand was actually named after Alex Henderson, a tenor horn player in the Army Band who rose to become the Director of Music in the Australian Army.
