Michael Villmow
Michael Villmow (* 1956 in Hamburg) ist ein deutscher Jazzsaxophonist, Dirigent und Komponist.
Villmow wuchs in Norwegen auf. Er studierte Jazzsaxophon an der Musikhochschule Köln. 1984 gründete er die Köln-Big Band, die er bis 1995 leitete und mit der er 1990 das Album N aufnahm. Seit 1986 unterrichtet er an der Rheinischen Musikschule Köln. Von 1993 an arbeitete er als Komponist, Arrangeur und Dirigent beim JugendJazzOrchester Nordrhein-Westfalen. Ab 2000 trat er als Gastdirigent u.a. mit der NDR Bigband, dem Bundesjugendjazzorchester sowie österreichischen und norwegischen Jazzorchestern auf.
Zwischen 1990 und 2000 arbeitete Villmow u.a. mit Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Junior, Jennifer Rush, Paquito D’Rivera und Chad Wackerman und leitete Konzerte mit Manfred Schoof, Randy Brecker und Markus Stockhausen. Er komponierte Bühnenstücke für die Oper Köln und Hörspielmusiken für den WDR. Zur Jahrtausendwende entstand im Auftrag des Norwegischen Kulturrates Chronophonia für gemischten Chor, Solisten und Jazzorchester.
Nach einer Fortbildung als Chordirigent bei Volker Hempfling führte Villmow als Sänger mit dem Gürzenich-Chor in der Kölner Philharmonie Werke von Bach, Fauré und Brahms auf. Für die Rheinischen Musikschule Köln komponierte er die Musik zu dem Ballett Pippi Langstrumpf. Mit dem Cellisten und Organisten Gunther Tiedemann betreibt er das Crossover-Projekt Kreuzüber Bach.
