Tony Wood

"Tony Wood" (Born 12th October, 1983] is a Singer and songwriter known locally in the areas of Newcastle upon Tyne and Whitley Bay, North East England.

Anthony Wood has been noticeably present in the North East musical scene for between 5 and 10 years, playing at various Newcastle venues. He recently supported such acts as Jose Gonzales and Babyshambles, thus setting in stone his developing cult status as a local musician.

Trivia

* Tony has played lead guitar in several smaller local bands, including Crime Scene Dog, Neocyde and Two Monkeys before he finally became disappointed with the quality of band musicians and made the decision to go it alone.

* On several occasions, Wood was employed as an extra on local CBBC drama Byker Grove.

* He cites figures such as John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Damien Rice and Cameron clement as his main musical influences.

* While playing an acoustic gig at The Head Of Steam with his occasional musical sparring partner, Blam'ro NeckLamont, Tony Wood found the show was prematurely slowed down after a large power cut. However, due to quick thinking and a masters degree in Electrophysics, Tony made a temporary power source using citric acid, a steel rod and a copper wire. The show went on with the bare, skeletal equipment needed and he was able to play two encores.

* Locals in the Whitley Bay and Newcastle upon Tyne area have become very familiar with Mr Wood. He is often described as a 'local legend' and a 'saviour of local music'.

* When interviewed by the NME in February 2005, Tony insisted on travelling to Salford Boys Club, a stomping ground for the likes of Morrissey and The Smiths, who Tony also describes as influences. He insisted that this was at the NME's expense. His request was declined, and the interview was carried out in his local public house.
