David Hancock

David Hancock (born August 10, 1955), is an Alberta MLA.

David Hancock is in his third term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Whitemud. David Hancock also served as Minister of Justice twice and Attorney General and prior to that as Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs.

David Hancock is a lawyer by profession and was a partner with Matheson and Company, Barristers and Solicitors before entering public service. He received his law degree from the University of Alberta in 1979.

David Hancock was born in Fort Resolution, N.W.T., on August 10, 1955. He lived in Hazelton, B.C. and the northern Alberta community of Fort Vermilion, where he graduated from La Crete Public School. Mr. Hancock moved to Edmonton in 1972. He and his wife Janet have three children: Ian, Janis and Janine

On December 15, 2006 David Hancock was made Minister of Health and Wellness in the new Premier Ed Stelmach's cabinet.

Hancock won his fourth term as MLA for Edmonton-Whitemud as part of the Conservative sweep in the March 3, 2008 provincial election. On March 13, 2008, he was sworn in as Minister of Education and as Government House Leader.
