Henrique o Enrique de Vedia y Goossens o Gössens (Balmaseda,15 de octubre de 1802; - Jerusalén, 8 de octubre de 1863), historiador y diplomático español.
Biografía
Hidalgo, hijo del uruguayo Lorenzo Antonio de Vedia y Ramallo, que pasó a Valmaseda por haber heredado los bienes mayorazgos de su casa, y de Magdalena de Goossens y Ponce de León. Hablaba a la perfección francés, inglés e italiano y poseía una biblioteca copiosa y escogida. Fue Jefe político de diferentes provincias, entre ellas La Coruña; cuando lo era de Burgos, recibió a Théophile Gautier y le enseñó la Catedral, de lo que deja agradecida constancia el escritor en su Viaje a España. Fue además amigo de Pascual Gayangos y de Antonio Ferrer del Río y tuvo los cargos de Secretario de la Gobernación del Reino y Cónsul de España en Liverpool y Jerusalén; allí le sorprendió la muerte en 1863 cuando preparaba su regreso. Comendador de la Orden de Carlos III. En su honor la Biblioteca Pública de Balmaseda lleva su nombre.
Obras
Dirigió los dos volúmenes de Historiadores primitivos de Indias Madrid: Imprenta de Manuel Rivadeneyra, 1852-1853) de la Biblioteca de Autores Españoles (1877-1913), con ediciones de crónicas y textos de Hernán Cortés (1485-1547), Pedro de Alvarado, Francisco López de Gómara (1510-1541), Diego de Godoy (s. XVI), Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo (1478-1557), Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca (s. XVI), Bernal Díaz del Castillo (1492-¿1581?), Francisco de Xerez (s. XVI), Pedro Cieza de León (1518-1554) y Agustín de Zárate (s. XVI). También tradujo y anotó, junto a Pascual Gayangos, la Historia de la literatura española del hispanista George Ticknor y compuso unas Memorias para la historia... de la villa de Balmaseda que se halla manuscrita en la Biblioteca de Francisco Zabálburu y una Historia y descripción de la ciudad de la Coruña (1845).
Sus " Memorias de la M.N. y M.L. villa de Balmaseda " estan publicadas por GOMEZ PRIETO, Julia en la Colección Malseda : Fuentes para la Historia de Balmaseda, Tomo I ( Fuentes historiograficas : Las Memorias de Vedia y otros textos históricos sobre esta villa ). Se acompañan de una amplia Biografia y genealogia familiar realizada tambien por GOMEZ PRIETO , Julia. Fueron editadas por el Ayuntamiento de Balmaseda en 1985.
