FOX, CHARLES
FOX, CHARLES (1876–1964), British psychologist. Born in London, Fox lectured at the Westminster Hospital Medical School and at the Cambridge University Training College for Schoolmasters. In 1919 he was appointed principal of the Training College and director of training at Cambridge University, serving through 1939. A specialist in the field of educational psychology, his important books are Practical Psychology (1928), Educational Psychology (1925, 19504), and The Mind and Its Body (1931). His basic approach was to extract the practical features from each of the conflicting theoretical schools – such as the Freudian and the Gestalt – and to coordinate them so that they could be incorporated into an expanding science of learning.
