Imad Saleh est professeur en sciences de l'information et de la communication de l’Université Paris 8. Spécialiste du web sémantique, de l'hypertexte et des technologies de l'hypermédia, il a contribué au dynamisme de la recherche sur ces thèmes, notamment à travers l’organisation de la première conférence internationale française sur l’hypertexte : H²PTM’1989 (Hypertext Hypermedia Products Tools and Methods)[1].

Parcours académique

Après avoir obtenu un master d'informatique à l'Université Paris 8, puis un diplôme d'études approfondies à l'Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), il soutient une thèse de Mathématiques appliquées aux sciences de l'Homme en 1990 et obtient la mention "très honorable"[2]. Sa thèse portait sur le Rapport entre les bases de données relationnelles et l'intelligence artificielle : Etude et conception du modèle H-Relation[3].

D'abord chargé de cours aux départements hypermédias et informatique de l’Université Paris 8 entre 1986 et 1995, il est par la suite nommé Maître de conférences en 1996. Ses recherches sur les bases de données, concomitantes à l’expansion du Web et l’augmentation de la quantité de données et de leur complexification, l’a conduit à appliquer ses modèles sémantiques et algorithmiques aux contenus internet. Ce parcours interdisciplinaire, de l'ingénierie informatique aux sciences de l'information, le mena à centrer ses recherches sur les facteurs informationnels et sémantiques de l'indexation et la recherche documentaire en réseau. Ses résultats ont par ailleurs constitué les fondements de son habilitation à diriger des recherches soutenue en 2001, sous la direction du Pr. Jean-Pierre Balpe (Université Paris 8), et titrée Web Sémantique, Dynamique et Coopératif[4].

Depuis 2002, il codirige, puis dirige à partir de 2004, le Laboratoire Paragraphe, Equipe d'accueil n°349, rattachée à l'école doctorale "Cognition, Langage, Interaction" de l'Université Paris 8 (dont il est également directeur adjoint). Membre de plusieurs comités scientifiques de conférences internationales en technologies de l'information et de la communication, il poursuit ses thèmes de recherche en génération automatique de liens et nœuds, sur l'interfaçage automatique d’hypertexte, la recherche et le filtrage d’information sur le Web, le Web social, les savoirs en construction coopérative (du cyberespace vers un travail coopératif).
