Электронная книга: David Held «The Governance of Climate Change»
Climate change poses one of the greatest challenges for human society in the twenty-first century, yet there is a major disconnect between our actions to deal with it and the gravity of the threat it implies. In a world where the fate of countries is increasingly intertwined, how should we think about, and accordingly, how should we manage, the types of risk posed by anthropogenic climate change? The problem is multi-faceted, and involves not only technical and policy specific approaches, but also questions of social justice and sustainability. In this volume the editors have assembled a unique range of contributors who together examine the intersection between the science, politics, economics and ethics of climate change. The book includes perspectives from some of the world's foremost commentators in their fields, ranging from leading scientists to political theorists, to high profile policymakers and practitioners. They offer a critical new approach to thinking about climate change, and help express a common desire for a more equitable society and a more sustainable way of life. Links to Libya
In March, 2011, Held's name came to be associated with the LSE Libya Links scandal. Held was an advisor of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who received his PhD from LSE in 2008.[4] According to the Wall Street Journal, in 2009, Professor Held introduced Saif at lecture at the LSE as "someone who looks to democracy, civil society and deep liberal values for the core of his inspiration." As early as 2009, a watchdog organization reported that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi had hired the services of the Monitor Group, a Boston-based consulting company that includes at least two well-known former British spies among its ranks, to conduct interviews required for his thesis.[5] It has also been revealed that the LSE accepted a donation of 1.5 million pounds from the NGO of Saif Gaddafi.[6] David Held issued a personal statement in reaction to the allegations, saying that "in many discussions and meetings I encouraged the development of [Gaddafi's] reform agenda and subsequently sought to support it through research on the North Africa Programme funded by the Gaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation" at the LSE.[7]
In October 2011 Held resigned from his post at the LSE in advance of the publication an independent report into the LSE's links with Libya.[8]
