Bill Bryson kirjutas raamatu„Ülestähendusi väikeselt saarelt: ameeriklane Suurbritannias“ 1995. aastal, vahetult enne naasmist Ameerika Ühendriikidesse, kust ta pärit on, otsustades enne lahkumist talle enam kui kakskümmend aastat koduks olnud riigis hüvastijäturingreisi teha.
