Sarah Hodgson

Sarah Hodgson is a New York-based entrepreneur, dog trainer, author, syndicated columnist and media personality. She has written nine dog training books[1] and holds a US patent on a training aid known as The Teaching Lead.[2]

Biography

A professional dog trainer since 1988, Hodgson owns When Dogs Talk...Sarah Listens, a training studio in Katonah, New York.

A graduate of SUNY at Purchase with a BS degree in Biology with an emphasis on human psychology and animal behavior, Hodgson lives in Westchester County, New York, with her husband, their two children and various pets.

Philosophy

Hodgson believes that dogs are highly intelligent and aware and sees parallels between raising dogs and rearing children.[3][4]

Bibliography

Hodgson is the author of nine books on dog training including Puppies for Dummies, Dog Tricks and Agility for Dummies, DogPerfect, Teach Yourself Visually Dog Training and Miss Sarah’s Etiquette Guide for Dogs and their People. She is the co-author, with dog behaviorist Stanley Coren, of Understanding Your Dog for Dummies. Her books have been translated into nine languages.

Television appearances

Hodgson has appeared as a guest expert on NBC, CNN, CNBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, Animal Planet and the DIY Network. She has worked as a press escort for the Westminster Dog Show.

Print and online publications

Hodgson’s columns have appeared in Parenthood, Prevention and Country Living magazines as well as the New York Times and the Record Review. Her syndicated column, “Life…Unleashed,” appears on Patch.com, a community-specific news and information platform.
