Richard Teitelbaum

Richard Teitelbaum (born May 19, 1939) is an American composer, keyboardist, and improvisor. Born in New York, he is a former student of Allen Forte, Mel Powell, Luigi Nono. He is best known for his live electronic music and synthesizer performance. For example, he brought the first moog synthesizer to Europe ( [http://www.allclassical.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:gifixq85ldde AMG] ). He is also involved with world music and uses Japanese, Indian, and western classical instruments and notation.

He studied Italy with Luigi Nono and Goffredo Petrassi. While in Italy, he became a founding member of Musica Elettronica Viva with Alvin Curran and Frederic Rzewski. He has also collaborated with Anthony Braxton, Nam June Paik, Joan Jonas, Andrew Cyrille, and Leroy Jenkins, among others.

Teitelbaum lives in upstate New York and teaches at Bard College.
