The market approach aims to establish the value of a company based on how similar firms are priced on the stock exchange or through company transactions. Using the market approach, price-related indicators such as price to earnings, sales and book values are utilised. An ever-present problem however, is that different valuation multiples and valuation methodologies tend to provide the analyst with contradictory outputs. The solution to this problem so far has been to claim that the market approach is more art than science, thus providing the analyst with the freedom to alter the multiples at their own discretion to reach a uniform value or range. Valuation: The Market Approach puts an end to this problem, providing the reader with a rational scientific-based understanding and the necessary tools to perform a sound market approach valuation, or if reviewing such valuations, provide the tools to challenge the work of the arts-based senior experts. The book begins with an in-depth review of the basics; which is then applied in a detailed worked example. Step-by-step, the reader’s expertise is built towards a complete understanding and implementation of the market approach, not only on a standalone basis but also in relation to the DCF methodology. The book is aimed at the seasoned professional, but will also be invaluable to students as they apply their academic knowledge to the real world of valuation and M&A. About the author: SETH BERNSTROM is a Director at the Valuations practice of PwC. He has 15 years of experience as a valuation expert with a special focus on private equity, with long-running engagements in Valuation for some of the leading Nordic private equity houses. Additionally, he provides valuation support and valuation-related advisory services to large and medium-sized Nordic and (Nordic-based) global companies. In addition to his regular work at PwC, he also acts as Visiting Lecturer on valuation at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Furthermore, he often gives lectures and seminars on valuation at other leading Nordic universities, investment banks, companies, and organizations. Michael Rees
Michael Rees is an American artist doing sculpture, installation, animation, and interactive computing. He has exhibited his works widely, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1995 Whitney Biennial, 2001 Bitstreams Exhibition); The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT (Putto Large and Moving 2004, Pop Surrealism 1998, Best of Season 2001), The MARTa Museum, Herford, Germany (Putto 4 over 4 2005), and The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO (Putto 2x2x4 permanent installation of sculpture and animation). He has experimented with a broad practice that includes performance, interactive computer programs (the sculptural user interface), digital modeling and fabrication, animation, and video. Rees' work with digital media has been written about and illustrated in books,[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] articles,[8][9][10] and catalogues for exhibitions.[11][12] His talk at the Rothko Chapel, Houston, Texas is also published.[13]

Education and Teaching
Michael Rees was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He studied at Vassar College for 2 years with the social realist painter Alton Pickens. He transferred to the Kansas City Art Institute and worked with the installation artist Dale Eldred and the ceramics sculptor Jim Leedy. He graduated in 1982. He traveled to Germany in 1983-84 on a Deutscher Akademischer Austauchdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) award to study with Joseph Beuys and Gunther Uecker. In 1989 he graduated from Yale University in Sculpture where he studied with David Von Schlegal, Irwin Hauer, Vito Acconci, Alice Aycock, Frank Gehry and others. He met and worked with other artist's at Yale including Matthew Barney, Katie Schimert, and Michael Grey and wrote an article about it [14]
Rees teaches about sculpture and digital media at William Paterson University. He has taught at Oberlin College, The Kansas City Art Institute, Washington University in St. Louis, New York Institute of Technology, and Rutgers University.
