Wolfgang Behringer
Wolfgang Behringer (* 17. Juli 1956 in München) ist ein deutscher Historiker.
Er wurde 1985 in München mit einer Arbeit über das Thema Hexenverfolgung in Bayern promoviert und war ab 1991 als wissenschaftlicher Angestellter an der Universität Bonn tätig, wo er sich 1997 habilitierte. 1998 wurde er Angestellter am Max-Planck-Institut für Geschichte in Göttingen und vertrat den Lehrstuhl von Winfried Schulze an der Universität München. 1999 übernahm er eine Professur für „Early Modern History“ an der University of York. Seit 2003 ist er als Nachfolger Richard van Dülmens Ordinarius für Frühe Neuzeit an der Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken.
Behringer beschäftigt sich schwerpunktmäßig mit der Kulturgeschichte der frühen Neuzeit. Er gilt als Spezialist für Hexen und Hexenverfolgung sowie für Post- und Klimageschichte. Er gilt als Klimaskeptiker.
