The Tainan Confucius Temple, also called the Scholarly Temple was built in 1665 when Cheng Ching, son of Koxinga approved of the proposal by Chief of General Staff Chen Yung-hua to construct on the present site the Temple on the right side and the National Academy(to be called `Guo Xue` hereinafter) on the left side of a hill, with both of them facing the south.
