Inimeste teod ja väikesed saladused, mis normaalses olukorras erilist tähelepanu ei pälviks, võivad nüüd saada neile hukatuslikuks. Simon Sebag Montefiore romaan põhineb asetleidnud sündmustel ning selles esinevad mitmed ajaloolised tegelased. Oma õhkkonnalt seostub see kindlasti Montefiore eelmise romaaniga„Sašenka”.
