Judith Kerr
Judith Kerr (née en 1923 à Berlin) est une écrivain britannique d'origine allemande.
Fille d’une famille juive, son père était un écrivain allemand reconnu. Lors de la montée du nazisme, la famille s’est exilée afin de se protéger. Elle part d’abord en Suisse, puis en France et s’installe en Angleterre en 1936. Elle y a épousé un écrivain britannique, Nigel Kneale, et a pris la nationalité de son mari.
Elle est diplômée d’une école de Métiers d’art en 1945.
Elle a exercé la profession d’enseignante, de scénariste pour la BBC ; styliste, elle a également travaillé dans l’édition pour ensuite devenir auteur et illustratrice pour la jeunesse. Elle a écrit trois autobiographies, une sur son enfance exilée, une sur son adolescence en Angleterre durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et une autre sur son bref retour à Berlin lorsqu’elle était jeune mariée.
En 1971, elle écrit Quand Hitler s’empara du lapin rose ("When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit") en anglais et reçoit en 1974 un prix littéraire allemand.
Elle a également reçu le prix Somerset Maughan pour son premier roman.
Elle a publié des albums pour enfants et continue d’écrire actuellement en anglais.
