Tobias G. Natter (Taufname Günter Tobias Natter[1], * 26. Mai 1961 in Dornbirn) ist österreichischer Kunsthistoriker, Leiter des Leopold Museum in Wien und international anerkannter Experte vor allem für die Wiener Kunst um 1900.

Leben
Natter studierte an den Universitäten Innsbruck, München und Wien. Das Studium der Betriebswirtschaftslehre schloss er mit dem ersten Studienabschnitt ab, in Kunstgeschichte und Geschichte promovierte er 1988 mit der Arbeit "Icones rectorum. Werden und Eigenart der Rektorengalerie an der Universität Wien" zum Dr. phil.. Nach drei Jahren im Historischen Museum der Stadt Wien war er fünfzehn Jahre an der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere Wien tätig, zuletzt als Chefkurator. Für das damals neu gegründete Jüdische Museum Wien arbeitete er als ständiger Gastkurator und konzipierte wichtige kunsthistorische Ausstellungen. 2001 bis 2002 war er Mitarbeiter der Neuen Galerie New York, deren erste Wechselausstellung er realisierte.
2006 bis 2011 leitete Natter das vorarlberg museum (vormals Vorarlberger Landesmuseum) in Bregenz, dessen Neubau und inhaltliche Neukonzeption er museologisch verantwortete. Im September 2011 hat Natter die Nachfolge Rudolf Leopolds als künstlerischer Leiter des Leopold Museums angetreten.[2]
Natter war und ist Mitglied diverser Kunstkommissionen (Unterrichtsministerium Wien, Stadt Wien, Land Vorarlberg). Zuletzt Berufung in die Bibliothekskommission der als UNESCO Weltkulturerbe gelisteten Stiftsbibliothek St. Gallen. Als Ausstellungskurator nahm er zahlreiche Einladungen von Museen in Österreich, Deutschland, Italien, den USA und Japan an. Außerhalb Österreichs kuratierte er Ausstellungen für die Hamburger Kunsthalle, die Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt a.M., das Museo d´Arte Moderna Rovereto, die Tate Gallery Liverpool, das Kobe Prefectural Museum sowie für die Neue Galerie New York.
