Много бессмертных художников жили и работали в Париже в конце 19-го столетия. Они включали Дега, Сезана, Гогена, Ван Гога, Сейра, Ренуара и Тулуз-Латрека. Тулуз-Латрекнаблюдал и воспроизводил в своем искусстве Парижскую ночную жизнь этого периода. Энри Тулуз-Латрек родился 24 ноября 1864 года в Альби, Франции. Он был аристократом, сыном и наследником Графа Альфонса-Чарльза де Тулуз и последним наследником рода, который насчитывал тысячу лет. Отец Энри был богат, красив, и эксцентричен. Его матьбыла чрезмерно предана ее единственному выжившему ребенку. Энри был слабым мальчиком и часто болел. К тому времени, когда ему исполнилось 10 лет, он начал рисовать. В 12 лет молодой Тулуз-Латрек сломал свою левую ногу, а в 14 правую. Кости не смогли срастись должным образом, и его ноги прекратили расти.
