John Peebles

John Peebles (1872 – January 5, 1948) was a Canadian politician.

Born in Albion Corners, Ontario, Peebles moved to Hamilton as a small child, and eventually established a jewellery business. He was elected as an alderman covering the city at large in 1908. He ran for the Hamilton East seat in the House of Commons in 1911 as a Liberal, but was defeated by incumbent Samuel Barker. He received only 32.6% of the vote.

For several years, he sat on the cemetery board. In 1925, he was again elected, this time as alderman for Ward 3. From 1926 to 1929, he sat on the board of control.

In 1930, he was acclaimed as mayor. He subsequently won re-election three times, until he was defeated in 1934 by Herbert Earl Wilton.

Robert Hastings (born April 18, 1925) is an American film and television character actor.

Biography

Hastings was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Hazel and Charles Hastings, Sr., who was a salesman. [ [http://www.filmreference.com/film/86/Bob-Hastings.html Bob Hastings Biography (1925-) ] ] Hastings got his show business start in radio on Coast-to-Coast on a Bus (NBC) and after the Second World War as the voice of Archie Andrews in a program based on the popular Archie comic book series on the Mutual Broadcasting System. Hastings made the transition to television smoothly in 1949 in early science-fiction series including "Captain Video" and "Atom Squad". His first recurring role was as a lieutenant on Phil Silvers' "Sergeant Bilko" series in the late 1950s.

Most of his career has been spent in television, including an episode on "Green Acres" as a sheriff. Also Hastings is remembered for roles including Captain Binghamton's yes-man Lieutenant Elroy Carpenter on "McHale's Navy", bar owner Tommy Kelcy on "All in the Family" and Captain Ramsey on "General Hospital". Hastings was briefly the host of the game show "Dealer's Choice".

Hastings has also done voice work for animation and commercials, including Beany on "Beany and Cecil", The Raven on the "Munsters" series, Superboy in the "Superman/Aquaman" cartoons of the 1960s, D.D. on Hanna-Barbera's "Clue Club", and in recent years, the voice of Commissioner Jim Gordon on the animated "" series.

Hastings played Cousin Phantom of the Opera in the tv movie The Munsters' Revenge. He also provided the voice for Superboy for Filmation's the Adventures of Superman Cartoon. Hastings was in a 1971 movie starring Don Knotts called How to Frame a Figg.

Hastings is the brother of longtime "As the World Turns" star Don Hastings. He has been married to wife Joan (Rice) for over 50 years and has four children, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Hastings continues to tour the country as a participant in various Old-Time Radio Conventions reading scripts for such shows as Archie Andrews and The Bickersons.
