The Indian in the Cupboard

Серия: "-"

Full of magic and appealing characters, this classic novel takes readers on a remarkable adventure. It's Omri's birthday, but all he gets from his best friend, Patrick, is a little plastic Indian brave. Trying to hide his disappointment, Omri puts the Indian in a metal cupboard and locks the door with a mysterious skeletonkey that once belonged to his great-grandmother. Little does Omri know that by turning the key, he will transform his ordinary plastic Indian into a real live man from an altogether different time and place! Omri and the tiny warrior called Little Bear could hardly be more different, yet soon the two forge a very special friendship. Will Omri be able to keep Little Bear without anyone finding out and taking his precious Indian from him?

Lynne Reid Banks

Lynne Reid Banks (born 31 July 1929) is a British author of books for children and adults.

She has written forty books, including the best-selling children's novel "The Indian in the Cupboard", which has sold over 10 million copies and been made into a film.

Banks was born in London, the only child of James and Muriel Reid Banks. She was evacuated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada during World War II but returned after the war was over. She attended St Teresa's School in Surrey. Prior to becoming a writer Banks was an actress, and also worked as a television journalist in Britain, one of the first women to do so. Her first novel, "The L-Shaped Room", was published in 1960, [ [http://www.lynnereidbanks.com/biog.htm Biography] ] and was an instant and lasting best seller.

In 1962 Banks emigrated to Israel, where she taught for eight years on an Israeli kibbutz Yasur. In 1965 she married Chaim Stephenson, a sculptor, with whom she had three sons [http://www.yourlibrary.ws/childrens_webpage/j-author62001.htm] . Although the family returned to England in 1971 and Banks now lives in Dorset with her husband, the influence of her time in Israel can be seen in some of her books (including "One More River" and its sequel, "Broken Bridge" - and other books such as "An End to Running" and "Children at the Gate") which are set partially or mainly on kibbutzim.
