Книга: Michael Eisenstadt «Iranian Military Power: Capabilities and Intentions»
Серия: "Focus on Iran" In the aftermath of the Iran-Iraq War, Iran undertook a major military build-up designed to make it the dominant power in the Persian Gulf. In an exhaustively researched study, regional security expert Michael Eisenstadt contends that despite severe economic problems and the impact of U. S. sanctions, Iran has invested heavily in nuclear, biological, ami chemical weapons; ballistic missiles capable of striking Israel and other U. S. allies in the region; and naval assets that could he used to obstruct the passage of oil through the Gulf. In addition, Iran continues to support terrorist groups opposed to the Arab-Israeli peace process. Though U. S. efforts to contain Iran have been only partially effective thus far, Eisenstadt argues that they have prevented Iran from realizing its military ambitions, anil therefore should be seen as an overall success.
