Впервые в одной книге собраны шедевры живописи из крупнейших национальных собраний СССР, принадлежащие кисти таких мастеров, как: Моне, Матисс, Дега, Ван Гог, Писсарро, Ренуар, Гоген идругих представителей этой замечательной эпохи в истории мировой культуры. Книга открывается вступительной статьей М. Бессоновой об импрессионизме и постимпрессионизме, о ярких представителях течения в отдельности и о коллекции французской живописи в главных государственных музеях.
