Пейзажист и маринист, он отобразил и многие стороны жизни и человеческой природы благодаря точному воспроизведению среды и условий. Параллельно с кратким обзором жизни прослеживается его творческий путь, увлечение академическим идеализмом. Анализируется новое светотеневое направление, которое наводит на мысль, что один из последних мастеров великого прошлого и первый среди современных художников предвосхитил французских импрессионистов и в какой-то мере абстракционистов. Он завещал свои произведения английскому народу, но его огромное наследие стало не только национальным достоянием. Издание включает вступительную статью Василя Николеску, собрание высказываний о художнике, хронологию жизнии творчества, альбом репродукций.
