Книга: «Leningrad»
Nombreuses sont les villes dont l'existence plusieurs fois seculaire s'ecoule paisiblement. Les siecles passent et elles vivent comme en marge du fleuve tumultueux des evenements historiques: des generations naissent et disparaissent, les annees viennent puis s'en vont, mais jamais rien d'essentiel, rien de vraiment grand ne se produit dans leurs murs. D'ailleurs, elles semblent ne pas vouloir participer a la vraie vie; on dirait qu'elles n'existent pas; leur existence laisse tout le monde indifferent.
