Jutta Müller

Jutta Müller, born Jutta Lötzsch (December 13 1928) is a German former figure skater and one of the most successful figure skating coaches worldwide.

Born in Chemnitz, Saxony, she became East German champion 1949 in double women pair skating. This category was invented due to the lack of men in Germany after World War II. Her partner was Irene Salzmann. In 1953 she won the bronze medal at the East German nationals ladies event.

Jutta Müller's parents were Marie Lötzsch, born Prusky, and Emil Lötzsch, the 1930 Saxony champion in wrestling.

Jutta was first married to Wolfgang Seyfert. The couple had one daughter – Gabriele Seyfert. The marriage ended in divorce.

Her second husband was Bringfried Müller, an East German soccer player. That marriage also ended in divorce.

After World War II, Jutta became at first a teacher for German and sport. In 1946, she became a member of the SED, the former East German communist party. Later she studied sport at the DHfK Leipzig and since 1955 she is a figure skating coach.

Jutta Müller is now one of the most successful figure skating coaches worldwide. Her first student was her own daughter Gabriele Seyfert, who twice won the world championships (1969 and 1970). Among others, she has also coached Günter Zöller, Jan Hoffmann, Sonja Morgenstern, Anett Pötzsch, Katarina Witt and Evelyn Großmann. All together, her students won 3 Olympic gold medals and ten world champion titles. In comparison: Carlo Fassi's students won 4 Olympic gold medals and 8 world champion titles.

In 2004, she was admitted to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
