Meldola, Raphael

(1754-1828)
   British rabbi. He was born in Livorno. In 1804 or 1805 he became Haham of the Sephardi community in London. In this capacity he reformed Jewish educational insti-tutions, introduced a choir into the synagogue, and co-operated with Solomon Hirscher, the Ashkenazi chief rabbi. He published a handbook of marital life, as well as sermons, memorial poems and a catechism.
