Absenteeism is a habitual pattern of absence from a duty or obligation. Absenteeism as a symptom refers to the reasons that a person, may be absent from school (truancy) or work. Sometimes people are too sick to come in and in some cases they are making excuses. Both physical and psychological disorders can stop a person attending school or their work. Several studies revealed that the rate of absenteeism is high among high school children of the age group of 11-16 when compared to other age groups. For the welfare of the state and the individual pupil, the rate of absenteeism must be reduced. For this, we must know the causes for absenting from school.
