Sandra Clark was a breakout character on the sitcom, "227". She was portrayed by Jackée Harry, who won an Emmy Award in 1987 for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Character Background

Sandra Clark was a vamp, who lived in a Washington, D.C. apartment building, who had a career as a secretary at her neighbor Lester Jenkins's construction business, Schumer & Nathan, she had gotten along with everybody except for Mary Jenkins, who was a housewife, and for a fact, Sandra would gradually rub "Mary's face in it".

In the episode "Pity the Poor Working Girl" (originally aired on November 9, 1985), Sandra had lost her job at first then when she spends the morning with Rose, Pearl and Mary, Pearl and Rose tries to cheer up, but Rose had secretly suggested that Mary invited Sandra for dinner, that evening had came, and Sandra came to the Jenkins' apartment, then when Mary and Sandra have a "woman-to-woman" talk, and when Sandra had finally admitted that she can no longer handle a job because of a lot women's husbands have the hots for her, and the women get jealous, but when Mary starts to get suspicious and causes trouble at Sandra's job, Sandra quits.

Back at the apartment, Pearl and Rose put Mary and Sandra are sitting in the same room together so that they can get off what's on their minds, Mary and Sandra make up, and Sandra takes her job back as a secretary at Schumer & Nathan.

In some episodes, Sandra always was man-wise when she thought a man who had a sexy body, but always did not realize some men weren't really having a rendevous on her.

Jackée's Dismissal

In the fall of 1988, when "227" had entered its fourth season, tensions arose because of Jackée's character, Sandra, who was becoming the star of the show, and lead star, Marla Gibbs did not like what was going on with the Sandra character. Marla Gibbs and Jackée continued to fight, and although it was a misdemeanor, NBC, had created a television pilot for a spin-off from "227", and it may have seemed to be a problem when NBC decided to reject the pilot, anyway, "Jackée" aired on May 11, 1989, and it had focused on Sandra already moved to New York City for a brand new job, NBC rejected the pilot. In the years following the show's cancellation, Marla Gibbs and Jackée resolved their differences and are on good terms today.
