Recently, Mr Wells has publicly denounced his legacy as a pioneer within the pseudo-art of comic book writing. With an obvious (not to mention unoriginal) nod to recent developments in the career of pop singer Cat Stevens, Wells has turned his back on a life of listless scribblings and banal pre-adolescent tales of fantasy. Unlike Mr. Stevens, though, Mr Wells claims that his refusal to continue writing is "...neither based in religious belief nor the result of creative exhaustion. Rather, it is my moral duty to the rest of humanity that I end my literary pursuits. For every child's imagination that is tainted by my vast mediocrity, I shed a great tear. It is simply too painful to know that I alone am responsible for the downfall of western culture. I bid thee adieu."
While public sightings of Mr Wells are rare they are nearly always predicated by an announcement that his abandonment of the craft is yet another example of the "cloud of disgrace that follows my every step".
Wells wrote in his autobiography ("Zeb Wells: A Cautionary Tale") that his work on the series "Lonely Boy" represents "a complete and total lack of literary talent that defines my entire oeuvre. I should be (and am) ashamed of myself."

During late 2008, in the quiet township of Eagle Rock, Zeb Wells reported to authorities that he had had an altercation with what he described as "Self Transforming Machine Elves". Said "Elves" purportedly wanted to "show him things" such as a "rose that would shift shape into a dodecahedron-type of fractal pattern". Wells went on to claim that the incident ended abruptly after a "large caterpillar with a red face" beckoned that he approach it to "be shown more things". In typical Wellsian fashion, he ran away like a frightened child only to awaken suddenly on a brown leather couch within the candle lit study of Baron Von Hunter's castle. He is said to have described the event as "like...transcendent" and "beautiful, man". Authorities from the 5th Dimension were unavailable for comment but are said to be "investigating the incident".
