Views of parents and teachers were sought to ascertain the level of support afforded to children during this transition. A qualitative approach was used with a mixed methodology to include semi-structured interviews with adults and focus groups with children. The author concluded that many challenges were evident during this period in children`s lives. These challenges were somewhat overcome dependent on the level of support afforded to children by their peers, teachers and adults.
