Trevor Morris

Trevor Morris, professional footballer and manager 1921(?)-2003 [http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_20030211/ai_n12675272/pg_1]

The son of a miner from Carmarthenshire, Trevor Morris was a wing half with Cardiff City and Ipswich Town but his playing career was ended in a wartime match for Cardiff against Bristol City, while on leave from the RAF, when he suffered a broken leg.

During the Second World War Morris served in Bomber Command and piloted the lead aircraft in a squadron of 40 Lancaster Bomber's on D-Day. He flew over 40 missions over enemy territory and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal.

He returned to football in 1946 as Cardiff City's assistant secretary, being promoted to manager/secretary in 1954 after the resignation of Cyril Spiers. Following the club's relegation from the First Division in 1958 Morris resigned and became Swansea Town's general manager, effectively running the club. He was sacked following Swansea's relegation to the Third Division in 1965. He later had a short spell as general manager of Newport County

He was the secretary of the Football Association of Wales until 1982.

One of Morris's long-term achievements was the acceptance of the principle that footballers could play for a country with which they had blood ties but which was not the country of their birth.
